Militia Update.

Postby Anton Ivanovich » Wed Mar 14, 2012 12:39 pm

A notice is placed on the wall.

Dear Citizens of Greyhook,

The time is once again drawing near for a mass gathering in our humble section of town, with that in mind I feel the need to update all of you on recent developments in our security situation.

Due to last year’s report of infiltration soldiers and news of yet another advancing army with the goal of destroying our home, Mr. Jack Graft and I have spoken at length regarding the fate of our night time patrols. We feel that while the idea is sound and vital to our continued safety its implementation has been inefficient. This being the case Mr. Graft has worked out a deal in which I will be the ranking and commanding officer in charge, this makes the night watch an official town guard.

How this effects day to day operation is minimal, as part of the deal Mr. Graft will be retaining a secondary position within the organization as my number two and The Professor will continue to manage the account for as long as he wishes to do so. Day operations will now be managed by the three of us to insure maximum efficiency, however I urge to you report to either Mr. Graft or I if there is a problem as we will be better equipped to deal with it.

That being said we are also expanding the hours of operations and payment method for those who wish to volunteer. Due to low turnout over the past year I have decided to add a signing bonus to those who apply early. The first four (4) people to enlist for two (2) hours of service over the week end will receive a six (6) silver piece bonus upon arrival into Greyhook in order to be eligible for the bonus we request that you enlist before Thursday the 22nd of this month no later than 8PM, we would encourage that you use this bonus to pay for groceries so that you are well fed when you report for duty, hungry soldiers only aid the enemy.

In addition all those who provide two hours of service over the course of the week end will receive a pay rate of three (3) silver per hour worked. This payment is on top of any enlistment bonus previously mentioned so those who sign up early have the potential to make a decent amount of money. Any of you who wish to serve but can only spare one hour are still eligible for payment but it will be at the rate of two(2) silver for the hour of your time.

We have also noticed that Friday nights are a very dangerous time, and with the scouts on the move in the wilderness we need to remain vigilant at all times, with this in mind I am opening up a total of eight (8) Friday night guard positions, those blocks are.

FRIDAY NIGHT 10PM to FRIDAY NIGHT 11PM two(2) Positions
FRIDAY NIGHT 11PM to SATURDAY MORNING 12AM two(2) Positions
SATURDAY MORNING 12AM to SATURDAY MORNING 1AM two(2) Positions
SATURDAY MORNING 1AM to SATURDAY MORNING 2AM two(2) Positions

In addition Saturday even will continue to have the same hours of operation as in previous gathers, those times again are:

SATURDAY EVENING 7PM to SATURDAY EVENING 8PM two(2) Positions
SATURDAY EVENING 8PM to SATURDAY EVENING 9PM two(2) Positions
SATURDAY EVENING 9PM to SATURDAY EVENING 10PM two(2) Positions
SATURDAY EVENING 10PM to SATURDAY EVENING 11PM two(2) Positions
SATURDAY EVENING 11PM to SUNDAY MORNING 12AM two(2) Positions
SUNDAY MORNING 12AM to SUNDAY MORNING 1AM two(2) Positions
SUNDAY MORNING 1AM to SUNDAY MORNING 2AM two(2) Positions

After 2AM on both day’s we will stop having regular patrols, however if you need an armed escort please contact either Mr. Graft of myself and we will organize an escort for you.

In addition any of you that sign up for a shift but find a last minute obligation has come along either before or during your shift, please find either Mr. Graft or myself and inform us of the situation. We may be able to replace you or find someone to cover for you while you are taking care of business. You are expected to return to us once your business is completed and we will then work with you to find another shift for you to work. If you cannot work any shift but the one you signed up for then you are expected to return any signing bonus you may have received as you have not provided the service in which you where paid.

All guards are expected to report to the front doors of the tavern at the beginning of their shift, this will allow Mr. Graft or myself to brief you on any observations previous patrols have made throughout the evening. All patrols are expected to return to the front of the tavern for debriefing as well. Any person who does not show up to their shift within ten minutes of the start time will be considered absent without leave, they will sacrifice any wages they may have earned and in the event of a receiving a signing bonus they will be expected to return that money as well. If you are unwilling or unable to return any signing bonus for any reason please seek out Mr. Graft or Myself and we will be more than happy to find a reasonable solution to the problem.

On a personal note I ask all citizens to consider enlisting, the town has become incredibly dangerous over the past year and in order to survive we require advanced notice. This has become less a method of charity and more a method of survival, we can no longer afford to be ambushed in the tavern and trust the choke point that those doors provide to defend us.

If I cannot persuade you to do it for the money, at least consider doing it for mutual survival.

Thank you for your time.

"Don't worry you will not be alone." Ivan says after getting up from his seat and walking over to the list. "Anton wants this to work and I want this town not to be without a first line of defense and warning." Ivan then writes his name down next to Talbots's.

424 walks into the room, and pauses as she slowly looks the Club over. She takes note of the people with in. When her eyes fall upon the new notice on the board, she walks over and reads it.

Then picking up a writing implement, she carefully prints her name down next to:
SATURDAY MORNING 12AM to SATURDAY MORNING 1AM
SATURDAY EVENING 7PM to SATURDAY EVENING 8PM
SUNDAY MORNING 12AM to SUNDAY MORNING 1AM

She smiles gently and sits next to a window. She pulls her knitting into her lap and quietly works while watching the rain fall.

Sometime later, Molly scratches her name down beside two shifts:

SATURDAY MORNING 1AM to SATURDAY MORNING 2AM
SUNDAY MORNING 1AM to SUNDAY MORNING 2AM

She mutters to herself, "Who needs to sleep anyways?"

SPADE looks impassively at the list.

"If there's still cash to be had, consider me for both 11-12PM shifts on Friday an Saturday. I've got some new bloods arriving on the Airship tomorrow. One of them will pull detail with me."

SPADE writes his name down and Soldier X as the second.

"If none of them can do it, I'll find a suitable replacement."
