Masquerade Potluck: Hue and Cry

Masquerade Potluck: Hue and Cry

Postby Jacob » Wed Sep 28, 2011 5:55 pm

Ladies and Gents:

This isn't a Hue and Cry in the traditional sense. It's more of a "We're going to have an awesome fall/halloween party at LE. Who wants to bring cider?" kind of thing. We had a pretty successful potluck awhile back, and we'd like to invite all of you wonderful, horrible (mostly horrible. Let's be honest) people to bring seasonal dishes and treats to a potluck/masquerade party. The meal portion is pretty standard. For the party portion, we're looking for things like:

Food (kettle corn, roasted nuts, caramel apples, etc.).
Drink (Cider, hot chocolate, sparkling beverages)
Settings (if your PC would want to do anything specific to this kind of thing)
Music (I've heard rumors of waltzes for the ball portion of the shindig, other contributions are welcome)
Appropriate games and entertainments (Bobbing for apples? Scary story
competition? Anybody got ideas? Weather permitting, we want to do a bonfire)

So... yeah. For the generalized Potluck we'd be looking at drinks and entrees. Appetizers and desserts could probably be lumped into the party portion...

I will happily bring things, but only if you acknowledge that I am not horrible :)

I can bring sparkling cider and plastic wine glasses. Possibly also something tasty that can be eaten by people wearing nice clothes who don't want to worry about spilling on their finery.

Also, I vote for a game of Pin the Crown on the Peppers.

Well, it's not pin the tentacle on cthulhu, but I guess it'll have to do.

I have a small water heater, that works really fast, but I can bring plenty of Hot Chocolate mix, and if I can find it, Hot cider mix to bring.

Janna can bring her electric kettle for hot water, her selection of teas (cranberry-apple zinger, vanilla chai, cinnamon cloves, etc.) and some sugar-free cider as well (if you're in need of that sort of thing). I'll also bake spice-cake cupcakes, Volksgraad teacakes, and make home-made pumpkin bread, zuchinni bread, and truffles for the occasion. - However, DR1N (Ian) will take the appropriate credit in-game that night. :) He's secretly a baker, don'tcha know.

If someone can supply the stuff to dip. I'll bring my chocolate fountain along with the appropriate chocolate and skewers.

Banana's, marshmallows, and pretzel rods generally go over well. Given the time of year, apple, peach, and pear slices might work too.

I propose games such as 'Whack-a-Dorr,' 'Bobbing for Babies,' 'Blind Man's Buff,' 'Duck Duck Dorr,' 'Hide and Spook,' 'Chesskers (I have the rules for this),' and a piniata shaped like Dischordia's appendix that Short Deaths the person who breaks it open and spills candy that does funny things like quadra-maim, paralyze, and waste sanity.

The automata in town should get together and sing modem noise.

Dischordia should be a special guest of the night.

For music I can make a mixdisk of good songs by everybody's favorite chamber music group, Rasputina (check them out on youtube, I think their cover of Bad Moon Rising is fantastic; I also want to note that they are listed in the Steampunk Handbook). I can also dig through my vast music collection to see if I have some other music that might be appropriate (I've got an Enigma album as well). I wouldn't rely on me for all the music, but I feel I can contribute best there.

I also found this if anyone [cough plot cough] wants to find any interesting ideas for games or game mashups: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tr ... en's_games

I also would suggest a haunted house, because what would halloween be without a haunted house?

Being from upstate NY I'll being apples and cider donuts! I also have a 40 cup coffee pot that I will try to make mulled cider in. I'll do a dry run next weekend and see if it will work.

Also the crucial part of all parties is utensils, cups, napkins and plates.... I can bring hot cups. Any takers?

David and I will bring cupcakes and a cheese plate.
Normal cupcakes and cheese - not creepy at all, in any way.
