Weapon Specifications

Lost Eidolons allows the use of melee, thrown, and ranged weapons. Melee and thrown weapons should be constructed based on the specifications given in the Madrigal rulebook (available here, http://www.larp.com/madrigal/combat.html and in our rulebook).

Presently acceptable ranged weapons (and their in-game designations) are:

Please remember that in order for a player to wield a weapon, their character must have the appropriate skill. Furthermore, please make every effort to paint or otherwise change the neon colored weaponry to fit with the style of the game (wood, brass, and iron rather than dayglo plastic). Also, as a general note: for whatever reason, modern Nerf weaponry is built for adult human hands, while Buzz Bee weaponry tends to be better suited for smaller hands. As if children are mature enough to grasp the true beauty of these weapons...

For those of us who have them (since I don't think they're being made any more), what about the single-shot I've been using one of the rifles in Endgame since the game started, and other have used both the rifles and pistols in the same game.

(For what it's worth, I use NERF darts with mine, as opposed to Actionballs. Easier to get, and somewhat better performance, too.)

Interesting note about darts... I'll have to look into that.

And yes, Actionball guns should be perfectly acceptable, assuming they meet all the safety requirements.. and if you've been using it for Endgame, I don't see why they wouldn't. We didn't list them because, as you mentioned, they aren't sold any more. Though I hear that Ben Becker still makes things for people who PC at Pirate Island..

This must be said and this seems like as good a place as any.

Do not paint your NERF darts. Yes, I know they're neon orange, but a coat of spraypaint will make them jam in your gun and whatever you were firing at will laugh at you as it tools you into the ground. Trust me, I know!

On a related note, I have a small crossbow designed for shooting mini-marshmellows that i picked up at a ren-faire this summer that apparently has been successfully used with stock nerf darts. My highly inaccurate tests around my apartment seem to indicate performance on par with a nerf gun, if not a little better depending on the dart used. Any idea if such a thing would be usable? It is clearly not a melee weapon, so I'm not concerned in that regard.

A) The GMs would have to see it and play with it and shoot you in the eye a couple of times, then we might ok it.
B) We'd have to figure out what to call it--we're specifically trying to avoid low-tech weaponry in the game, so there is no "archery" or "crossbow" skill. Would it be a pistol? A longarm?

Generally, I'd reccommend against using it.

If you steampunked it up, like with pistons on the side and what not, do you think you might be able to pull it off? Not that I plan on using one, but it might be nice to add the option for something if you did it right.

I have the same crossbow[s] that fire mini marshmallows. I'll give them a shot with nerf bullets when I get home :-P but again, we're going for higher tech stuff. It's something we as a staff would have to discuss, though it is roughly the same size as a Pistol... and of course, we have no abilities to use bows/crossbows.

I was looking over the weapon construction with a friend and discussion ideas for swords when he mentioned how he would like to wield a saber for his dashing swordsman, but we were uncertain as to whether or not curved weapons were allowed. There was nothing in the rules disallowing the curvature of PVC, but nothing actually relating to it at all, so I thought that "better safe than sorry" and figured I'd ask:

Are we allowed to wield curved weapons, and if so, is there any particular method which is preferred?
